Frequently Asked Questions

What should I look for in a therapist?

There is a wealth of therapy research out there that suggests that the quality of the therapist-client relationship is responsible for about one third of the positive change that can come from the therapy process. This means that you want to work with a therapist whose personality and working style fits with yours. Talking to your therapist should make you feel safe, comfortable, respected, and accepted as your authentic self.

I have never done therapy before. What can I expect?

Considering therapy for the first time can be intimidating. It’s my job to make it feel comfortable for you — like a regular conversation. To start, our conversations will be focused on what is going on in your life lately, only discussing what you’re comfortable with. Booking a free 15-minute consultation is a good way to assess whether you feel comfortable talking to me and ask any specific questions you may have. Our first full session would be an intake session where we’d review your mental health and life history. Learning about your life helps me determine how I’d tailor a treatment plan to your needs. Subsequent sessions would feel more conversational, but I may steer them in a certain way to ensure that we are focused on your goals.

How long is a session and what is your rate?

A therapy hour is typically 50 minutes. This is because the remaining 10 minutes is for me to update your client file and therapy plan. My session rate is $150 per 50 minute block. We can look at a longer session time for an adjusted rate, if needed.

What does the title “Registered Psychotherapist-Qualifying” mean?

This title means that I have earned my credential to practice the controlled act of psychotherapy in Canada with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). The “Qualifying” part means that I am still accumulating the hours required by the CPRO to earn my full designation and until I reach this milestone, I am being supervised by an experienced Registered Psychotherapist with the CRPO who oversees my caseload and helps guide me when needed.

Are your services covered by health insurance?

If your health insurance includes coverage for “Registered Psychotherapy”, then yes! You will need to input my Supervisor’s name when submitting your insurance claim. This information is available on my receipts.
